Connecting a Dongle

Connection Type

There are two types of dongle connection, a parallel port connection and a USB port connection.

Parallel port connection

The parallel port dongle has both a male and female 25-pin connector, the male connector plugs directly into a standard IBM PC parallel port (female connector). If your computer has non-standard connectors then you will need to obtain a suitable adapter cable. Please take care not to insert the dongle into a serial port (usually a 25-pin or 9-pin male connector on the back of the computer) - this should cause no harm but the dongle will not be detected by the Orcina program

If the parallel port needs to be used for other devices (such as a printer) then these should now be plugged into the back of the dongle. The dongle should not interfere with signals passing through it to other devices. If you have any difficulties fitting the dongle, please double check that it is fitted to the right port and that it is the correct way round.

Dongles for local use

All the necessary software for using a local access dongle is installed when you install your Orcina program, all you need to do is connect the dongle to the appropriate port on your computer.

Dongles for network use

If you want to use your dongle over a network, please see Networked Dongles.
