Dongle Updates

About Dongle Updates

Orcina can update your dongle remotely, for example to add or remove licences, or transfer licences between dongles without you needing to return the dongle. This is done by sending you a small update file (usually by e-mail) which you can use to perform the update. The file will be named Hxxx_n.UPD or Nxxx_n.UPD where xxx is the Dongle number to which the update will be applied. The update can only be applied to this Dongle.

If you wish to use this facility then please contact Orcina to obtain the update file.

Applying a Dongle Update

Once you have a Dongle update file, follow the steps below to apply the update:

  1. If your dongle is being used in network mode, then first choose a suitable time when no users are using the dongle and then close down the dongle Licence Manager that is controlling the dongle. The dongle can be moved to another machine with OrcaDongle installed to apply the update if necessary.
  2. Ensure the correct dongle is correctly connected to your machine. The dongle number and letter must match the number and letter in the update file's name.
  3. Run OrcaDongle then click the Update Dongle button. Select the new update file supplied by Orcina (Hxxx_n.UPD or Nxxx_n.UPD) and click 'Ok'. Details about the new licences will now be incorporated into the dongle.
  4. A Verification Code will be reported - it is important that you now report that code back to Orcina. The dongle is now ready for use again.
  5. If the dongle was being used in network mode, it must be plugged back onto the dongle server machine and the Licence Manager program restarted.
